Crowbar is the first product from BSF Productions, a company emerged in 2014 after having participated in Startup Reykjavik, an accelerator for Icelandic entrepreneurs.

Bui Adalsteinsson, a product designer, got inspired by a 2013 U.N. report that encouraged people from western cultures to consider insects as a viable source of protein. As his graduation project from the Icelandic Academy of the Arts Bui made the Fly Factory. A machine that lets you grow and harvest Black soldier fly and its nutritious larvae. The concept behind the Fly Factory received a lot of attention from the media and the ball started rolling.

Bui contacted his friend Stefan Thoroddsen, who has background in business and marketing and together they formed the idea of an energy bar made with insects as the base ingredient. They made a business plan around the idea, applied for Startup Reykjavik, a local startup accelerator and the rest is history.

However, even though Crowbar has come a long way its story is just about to begin. We are close to being able to offer Crowbar, a more natural, nutritious and healthier energy bar made with Cricket flour, so stay tuned.
